SOLVED: How to Sync iTunes with Your Droid

What do all Droid users wish they could do? What is the only reason that people say the iphone is superior to the Droid? The answer to both of these questions, of course, is music. Whether it's a Droid, blackberry, or some old hand-me-down flip phone, everybody wishes they only had to carry one device, one device which could act as BOTH a phone and an mp3 player. Finally, after months of confusion, debate, and at times headaches, I have put together a video tutorial on how to sync your iTunes to your Droid and import ALL of your music to be played via your Droid. So sit back, relax, and thank me later, because the iphone just got some major competition in the field of music.

Broken down into two parts:

PART 1

PART 2

  1. Awesome! Perfect tutorial!

  2. What I have found is that it does not download all the songs that I purchased in the itunes store, only some. It will download anything that I actually put into itunes from my own collection.

  3. Sorry, but welcome to the party 9 months late. I've had Double Twist since November of 2009.

  4. Thank you Jarrod but the Droid is almost a year old should we stop talking about that too?

  5. We must've missed your tutorial Jarrod. Oh, you didn't make one? Well then why is "2 Guys" late to the party?

  6. iPhoto recognizes my Droid and imports the Droid photos onto my Mac, but doubleTwist does not sense a connection....this stinks. Love my Droid but the complications make me want to go back to the horrible ATT Service w. the iPhone

  7. Hey 2 guys... do you know of anything that will work for a 10.4 operating system?

    ReplyDelete
  8. THANK YOU!!!! This was SUPER helpful.

  9. If you import songs like this...Do you have to play them in double twist or can you play them with the built in players like on the X and such?

  10. You mention near the end of Part 2 that the artists didn't come over because you didn't have them filled in, but if you look back around minute 6 in Part 1, you DO have the artists in the "Artist" column on the songs you brought over. I'm planning to bring over all my music but I'm concerned that none of the artists will come over, so I'll be stuck with 2,000 songs that are listed by title only. Can you double check that the artists come over?

  12. doesn't work..."itunes plus" required .30 cents each song to convert after install of doubletwist. on a macbookpro to droid2.

  13. Well, I don't have a website to post a tutorial but I have given many posts on the Motorola Droid support forum to many people many times on DoubleTwist and how to use it. So in essence, yes I have written one so I guess until you know maybe you should shut your mouth. I'm also willing to assume that you didn't look to see if I have written one. Most people who have ever put in minimal effort in the past year and had an Android phone knows about this. Also can use it with Blackberry and even your iPod or iPhone. Secondly, yes. The Droid is getting old and since is has officially received its last OTA and is reaching end of life, we will soon cease talking about it. I give it til roughly the first of the year before it is rarely talked about. Don't get me wrong, I love my Droid, but there are numerous phones that are better and they are only going to widen that gap in the next 3-4 months.

  14. Anonymous. Yes, with purchased songs pre May 30, 2007 (some after) must be converted to iTunes plus to remove the DRM. Just curious, how many songs have you actually purchased from iTunes. Usually on iTunes they offer a package deal for something like .20 or .25 instead of the .30 they charge to actually buy the song. Just curious because 90% of my music comes from my own collection and some from Limewire and the rest from iTunes so I have only encountered this with about 92 songs (4 albums and 41 songs) but on those songs I sometimes can just drag and drop to the Droid. Some still wont work.

  15. Thanks, that made my life so much easier with having to sync each song myself.

  16. My New Droid X wont show up under devices!! What can i do to fix this??

    ReplyDelete
  17. You have to make sure it is discoverable. Anything hooked up via the USB port should theoretically be listed under devices. Make sure your connection is good on both ends. If it still isn't working, try the configuration settings on both your phone and on DoubleTwist

  18. Thank you for a great lesson in how to import music from my Mac to my DroidX.

  19. My droid x was not showing up on my mac book to work with double twist. I followed someone's recommendation on the Apple site and it actually worked like a charm.
When you connect the droid x to your mac, select 'charge only' on the usb connections on the droid x, then switch to USB Mass Storage. It makes no sense, but it has worked each time. I was then able to use this tutorial and sync my droid x with itunes. Thank you.

  20. when i plugged in my droid 2, my computer said that this device was not readable on this computer. help?

  21. check out the newest post, that should help you out

  22. THANK YOU!!! After spending hours with uninformed Verizon people I finally found you! Even spoke w a Google guy..no help. You explained clearly and cut through my frustrations...will "visit" often!

  23. I found your tutorial extremely helpful but I noticed whenever I drag music to my droid, it won't transfer every song from a specific album or artist. I bought a 32GB micro SD card for the sole purpose of fitting my nearly 20GB of music so its definitely not a space issue. What could be the issue? Thanks.

  24. Make a link so I can "like" this on Facebook and get ya out there. ;)

    Thanks <33

  26. I want to personally apologize for douchebags who would say anything negative about this tutorial. I've had my Droid a month and have been furiously searching for a sync program like iTunes for my old iPhone. Every link I went to sent me to some messageboard with a bunch of techie geeks speaking elite speak about a bunch of crap totally over the average user's head. This tutorial was so great. Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thanks guys - just got my Droid (Epic) 5 hours ago and have my favorite iTunes videos and playlists loaded and running. Your tutorial was funny and helpful. Thank you!

  28. Hi, I followed this tutorial to do this yesterday and it worked at first but when I went back to use it today it is saying "the audio file is not supported by the player" for every song! any ideas? thanks

    ReplyDelete
  29. can anybody point me to solutions to a DRM problem? More than half of what I wanted to put on my Droid could not occur because of DRM.

    ReplyDelete
  30. The easiest way to overcome DRM problems is (if it is iTunes) is upgrade to iTunes plus. Of course you can burn the songs onto a CD and then rip them back into iTunes to use in DoubleTwist DRM free. Of course, that is not always practical for everyone. And Melissa, if that comment was directed toward me you need to learn simple English. I said nothing negative about this tutorial. Its fantastic. What I was making negative comments about was the lateness of this news and people like yourself who clearly put no effort into finding DoubleTwist on your own when it is all over the internet and in just about every post about synching your music to Droid on just about every message board I've ever read.

  31. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

  32. Very helpful tutorial! Thank You!

Have one question though, how can I sync one playlist without deleting my old ones? Do I really have to sync all my playlist every time?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am able to only add three of my songs to double twist. Most of my other songs were downloaded from when it was Limewire. Will my phone only download actual Itunes songs or should that matter?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thank you so much! This worked perfect for me! You guys are great!

    ReplyDelete
  35. You had me at "How cute is my dog!" Seriously, thank you for taking the time to educate us.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I've never heard anyone pronounce "phone" the way you do. Not sure if it's a gay accent or a stuck up accent.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well, not that anyone will see this at this point, but here we are April of 2011 and as predicted in an earlier post by me no here gives a rats ass about the droid. Even more shocking os the fact that the makers of this web site have clearly also given up on it...I'd say I hate to say I told you so, but since you were assholes to me about my original post, I'm glad to say I was right and you guys look like douche bags.

    ReplyDelete
  38. yeah, Jarrod, hate to break it to you but there are actually things more important than a phone... crazy, I know... I dont know what youre education background is and I don't care, but both marty and I are currently in the hardest part of our educational carreers.. (disagree? ask anyone who has taken both organic chemistry and physics at the same time..or at all) Also as technology progresses so do people and Marty now has a differnt phone. It's challenging to make tutorials and instructional videos for a phone you no longer own. He has also started a small business himself (being 20, a pretty impressive feat) while at school so his time isn't exactly free. Next time, rather than hating on what we are or aren't doing appreciate the videos and tutorials we did make.... For closure and to let you in on a little secret, first the point of the blog was for two kids without jobs at the time to make a few bucks.. which we did (anyone who clicked the ads, thanks) and second to help people out...which we still do.. im sorry you cant see every email we receive, but they are plentiful and most everyone gets answered in at least some degree...now who is the douchebag

    ReplyDelete
  39. First, thanks for all your work. It's sad to see such mean-spirited comments like those posted by Jarrod. The generosity of spirit and people's time in trying to be helpful surely deserves our applause. Although I haven't yet used the program, I'm hoping doubletwist will get from itunes on my pc to my new galaxy S2. I imagine I should download it to a an msd. If anyone has used this with a GS2 please be kind enough to post that info here. Again, thanks so much and what you guys do is really appreciated by an overwhelming majority.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hey look, Jarod's still a douchebag....

Now, on behalf of Melissa, "Told you so."

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hi, nice tutorial.
My issue with songs that won't copy is not the ones I've bought, but rather the ones I loaded into iTunes from music CD's. Is there some setting I need to change?
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hmmm...
It seems the problem is my music that I loaded from CD's 'can't be found'. And sure enough, it's not in the iTunes folder on my computer. Now to figure out where they are, because search isn't finding them.

    ReplyDelete
  43. And still more. The files from CD can suddenly no longer be played in iTunes. They are still on my iPod (I checked that). So something about the installing and syncing doubletwist screwed up those files in iTunes. I did verify that I can reload from a CD and then drag/drop those files into the doubletwist library. What a pain in the patootie, though.

    ReplyDelete
  44. So...more than likely, it was a problem that occurred at some point with iTunes and I'm just finding it now? I can't remember the last time I played stuff straight from iTunes on my computer, but I know I could at some point in the past.

    ReplyDelete
  45. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
This was so easy to understand taking step by step. Yay droid!

    ReplyDelete
  46. After reading through this, and I doubt anyone will see this, I think that the majority of comments on here seem to either be from or to Jarrod. Where his comments can be construed as hateful or mean spirited to some degree I honestly can see where he is coming from in the sense that most people who put in a little effort already knew about this for a year before the post. On the flip side, I can also see where others are coming from as well as the video could be helpful to others. With that being said, by responding in the manner you did (all who did) it makes you just as big a douchbag. So, as asked, who's the douchebag now...you all (both) are.
