Verizon vs. AT&T

We've gotten some heat over the past few days for taking cracks at the iPhone and attributing it's shortcomings to AT&T's notoriously shitty coverage. To show that we are not just pulling opinions and facts out of our asses (as some iPhone users seem to do by saying their phone is the best), we have some survey data to backup our posts and show the evidence.

Reason 1 - Dropped Calls

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

In 2010, Changewave research collected these data which highlighted the vast difference in percentage of users who had a dropped call over a 90-day period. AT&T's dropped call rate was significantly higher.

Reason 2 - Customer Satisfaction

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The same research company went on to poll customer satisfaction across the leading carriers in the mobile phone industry, and it came as no shock that AT&T ranked at the bottom.

Reason 3 - Steve Jobs

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

This is less of a fact, and more of a blatantly apparent conclusion; Steve Jobs is not the best CEO. I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable using a device where when I tell the CEO it doesn't work when held a certain way, he just tells me, "So don't hold it that way." But it takes a true man to admit his mistake, so when Jobs realized his response to the community wasn't quite up to par, he offered free cases as compensation. I guess a pouch of leather valued at around $9 dollars really makes up for a crappy provider.

And then God said, "Let there be light!"

Clearing Up The Confusion - AT&T Service

Here's a simple comic I came across which might describe why it is that AT&T's service is so brutal. You can't fix a problem you don't know about after all.

2guys1droid Hits a Milestone!

Hey everybody. This is kind of a "checking in" post. Me (Marty) and Will would like to sincerely thank all of our avid readers for helping us through our first official month hosting this blog. Our traffic numbers are through the roof and we have already been offered several partnership and business oppurtunities along the way. None of that would be possible without all of our readers and viewers, so from our Droid to yours, thank you.

Furthermore, a blog just surfaced which is doing app reviews for the iPhone, and we would like to take this oppurtunity to tell you that they are IN NO WAY related to us here at 2guys1droid. They did a knock-off of our name, so if you see another blog with the 2guys1whatever name, know that it is not us, and we are the authentic, 2guys1droid creators and beginners of our mobile phone blogging dynasty.

SOLVED: How to Sync iTunes with Your Droid

What do all Droid users wish they could do? What is the only reason that people say the iphone is superior to the Droid? The answer to both of these questions, of course, is music. Whether it's a Droid, blackberry, or some old hand-me-down flip phone, everybody wishes they only had to carry one device, one device which could act as BOTH a phone and an mp3 player. Finally, after months of confusion, debate, and at times headaches, I have put together a video tutorial on how to sync your iTunes to your Droid and import ALL of your music to be played via your Droid. So sit back, relax, and thank me later, because the iphone just got some major competition in the field of music.

The big question these days seems to be "HELP Droid or Blackberry or Iphone????? Which should I get?" Well I don't know about you but I'm sick of having to constantly explain to people why the Droid is the right choice. So yesterday, it hit me. Welcome to the newest video series, which I will call the "versus" series, where I will take the Droid and compare it to the Blackberry and Iphone in every way possible and show you how it's better.

In todays matchup, the Droid faces off against a Blackberry Tour to see which phone has better internet surfing speed and a prettier interface. May the best phone win:

Winner: Droid. Hands down.

The Keyboard Power Rankings

Fear not, good Droid users. After centuries of debate (well, months actually...), the "which onscreen keyboard is best?" question has finally been resolved and put to rest. I've taken six of the most common and favored keyboards and ranked them in 4 categories, followed by an overall score. Each ranking is on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being iphone-awful and 10 being the keyboard of God himself. Our categories of ranking include:

Text Speed - How fast you can enter text
Spelling Accuracy - How accurately text can be entered without vast spelling errors
Appearance - How aesthetically pleasing the keyboard looks
Intangibles - The random nice features that keep you coming back to the keyboard

-------------------------------------------
POWER RANKINGS
-------------------------------------------
#6 - Stock Droid Keyboard - 5.8
#5 - Ultra Keyboard - 7.2
#4 - Swift Key - 7.6
#3 - Smart Keyboard - 8.1
#2 - Better Keyboard - 8.3
#1 - SlideIT - 8.7

#6 Stock Droid Keyboard

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Text Speed - 6.0
Spelling Accuracy - 6.0
Appearance - 4.0
Intangibles - 7.0

The basic stock droid keyboard comes fully loaded with absolutely nothing. In terms of productivity, the buttons are close together and difficult to type quickly with. The appearance lacks anything which draws the curious eye and the intangible keeping this keyboard in our power rankings is it's voice entry option, allowing users to clearly speak into the phone and have their words translated to text. This keyboard does a good job of translating voice entry, but nothing beyond this feature makes this keyboard worth having.

#5 Ultra Keyboard

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Text Speed - 6.0
Spelling Accuracy - 8.0
Appearance - 4.9
Intangibles - 9.8

Ultra keyboard is almost as ugly as the stock keyboard but far more functional. The speed isn't great because the qwerty mode takes a lot of getting used to, but this is a two-sided dagger because spelling is not easy. We found ourselves stopping to re-enter letters. All in all, speed and spelling went hand-in-hand and helped to limit each other's viability in our ranking. This keyboard, however, boasts an impressive 9.8 intangible score due to its fully customizable option tabs. Voice entry is a breeze and settings are always easily accessible at the top of the keyboard.

#4 Swift Key

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Text Speed - 8.1
Spelling Accuracy - 7.5
Appearance - 5.0
Intangibles - 9.8

Swift key brings up the middle of the pack with it's mediocre speed and spelling. A simple, bland appearance and interface allows the user to safely type words and a pretty decent speed. This keyboard would essentially be ideal for the Droid user who is looking to make a commitment to a new keyboard after using only the stock board, due to its relatively basic yet more advanced features. Like the Ultra keyboard, intangibles keep this keyboard on our list with its impressive customizable options. Reducing vibration and key-press lengths allows for flexible changes to the texting speeds. While the keyboard appears to text slowly, with the right adjustments we could see this keyboard moving up the power rankings in the near future.

#3 - Smart Keyboard

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Text Speed - 9.0
Spelling Accuracy - 9.0
Appearance - 7.5
Intangibles - 7.0

Smart Keyboard is perhaps the most balanced keyboard in our power rankings with impressive speed and spelling controls. The keys are very nicely spaced allowing for little to no spelling errors during crunch-time texting. The appearance isn't horrible and would be better with the implementation of new skins and colors. This keyboard also allows for voice entry, though doesn't do so as nicely as the stock or ultra keyboard. This should, however, not deter you from using this keyboard as it comes in at #3 on our power rankings.

#2 - Better Keyboard

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Text Speed - 8.0
Spelling Accuracy - 8.5
Appearance - 9.5
Intangibles - 7.0

Like Smart Keyboard, Better Keyboard is balanced and easy to use in terms of entry speed and accuracy in spelling. The keys are nicely spaced but the most impressive feature of this keyboard is by far its sexy black appearance. It matches the phone beautifully and allows users to feel good haptic feedback while the keys vibrate during texting. The sound effects are also pretty nice. Voice entry is mediocre, but overall this keyboard is very solid.

#1 - SlideIT

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Text Speed - 9.8
Spelling Accuracy - 8.7
Appearance - 7.3
Intangibles - 9.1

SlideIT keyboard leads our power rankings with very impressive all around scores. Perhaps the most mind blowing aspect of this keyboard is the speed with which text can quickly and accurately be entered. The ability to type complex words without lifting your finger off of the touch screen makes texting fun. The appearance is do-able and the intangibles are flashy and complex. Voice entry is VERY good so when you don't feel like texting at the speed of light, have fun entering it via voice command. Definitely get this keyboard!

How to Stop Your Text Logs From Getting Erased

Before following any of these steps, the first precautionary measure you need to take is to make sure that under the stock messager (Messaging App that comes with the phone), go to "Settings" and at the top you'll see under "Storage Settings" there is a check mark next to "Delete Old Messages." Make sure it is unchecked. You also have the option to specify how many texts you want to save, so you don't have to keep all of your texts for ever. Once you uncheck this box, follow the next steps below.

Explanation: The reason why text logs get randomly erased is because (without knowing it) users are recieving notifications from several texting apps, making the database which manages incoming information overflow. This leads to the texting apps either not responding, force closing, or both. To eliminate this problem and to keep your text logs safely intact, follow the easy steps outlined in this video:

Marty's Top 5 Most Useful/Productive/Coolest Apps

When it comes to staying productive on the go, I (Marty) have 5 basic needs. I want my sports scores, my business fix from eBay, my texts to be iphone-ish (without the shitty service), and for all of my information to be at my disposal safely hidden in a virtual safe. Oh yeah and for instant internet access whenever I desire. Do I sound greedy? Well I am. This video shows you how I satisfy those needs with my top 5 apps for the Motorola Droid. Enjoy

How to Uninstall Applications from Your Droid

Most people think that by simply dragging an app to the trash and letting go of it they are removing an app from their droid completely. This, however, is not the case. To successfully uninstall the application, follow the steps outlined in the above video tutorial. This will get the space back which was used up by the app. Enjoy.
